Lighting Design Tips

Track lighting is a collection of small lamps arranged in a line. The track is frequently hung from the ceiling, with the cord encased in the track and the individual lamps spaced out at intervals. The lamps can either all face the same direction or some can be turned to point in different directions, meaning the illumination can be directed where you need it.

There are many styles and uses for track lighting that combine elegance with functionality. Track lighting fixtures come in a variety of finishes so that you can match the décor of the space where the track lighting is placed.

Kitchens

Since the individual lamps of track lighting can be pointed at will, it makes sense to place track lighting over an island or countertop. Track lighting can provide necessary task lighting for cooking and food preparation. Vary the size of the track to meet your needs and create the ambiance you would like for your home. If there are exposed beams in your kitchen, these can be ideal placements for track lighting.

Living Rooms

While you may not want to use track lighting for the only lighting in your living room, it can be the perfect accent around the perimeter. Draw attention to wall art, a row of photographs, or a particularly impressive architectural feature. In some cases, modern track lighting can be used to illuminate a reading nook or the corner chair where you knit, crochet, or do other hobbies.

Bedrooms

You may choose to illuminate the sleeping area or, again, some artwork hanging on your wall. If the bedroom is small enough and white or brightly colored, track lighting could be enough to serve as the main light source. It can be particularly helpful that the lamps point in any direction and adjust for your activity.  Track lighting can also be the perfect solution for a walk-in closet or dressing area.

Hallways

One of the most popular ways to use track lighting is in hallways. Its setup is perfect for a long, narrow area. It is bright enough that you will not need other lighting fixtures, plus you can point the individual lamps at wall hangings or other decor that visitors pass along the walkway.
